Day in the Life of Donna Alward

I’m a creature of habit.  I LOVE my routine.  When I’m in my routine I’m in the zone, big time.  So a day in the life really is a pretty accurate view!

My day starts at 6 a.m.  I get up at the same time as my husband, and start packing lunches.  After he leaves at 6:30, I boot up the pc and start checking e-mail, the daily blogs I read, and author loops.  If I update my blog, this is usually the block of time where I do that.

At 8:15 it’s time for the school run, which is actually a walk and quite enjoyable when the weather is nice, which is most of the time in my neck of the woods.  Back at 9, I check what needs to be done.  In a perfect work day, I don’t have edits, or proofs, or webpage updates…I have the time to just WRITE.  I put on some music – I usually write to a soundtrack.  I might take breaks to give my neck and back a rest and change laundry around, have a snack, whatever.  And I quit around 1 p.m., have some lunch while indulging myself in my one soap addiction – General Hospital.

I’m getting really good at doing tidying jobs during commercials.

From 2-3 p.m. I try to get a handle on housework, because I get distracted when the house is in chaos around me.

3 p.m. is the school run again, and when we get back it’s emptying backpacks, assessing homework requirements, piano practice, maybe sticking something in the microwave to defrost, or finishing whatever I started for housework, hopefully before my husband gets home at 4:15.

When he gets home, that’s workout time.  We have a gym in the basement.  And after that, it’s cooking dinner, tidying up, kid-time, their bedtime…and then…vegging in front of the tv with knitting or a glass of wine, or reading.
